Marf comes from a fairly musical family background and as a small child was no stranger to singing with guitars, fiddles etc round the campfire (or anywhere else for that matter).

She is not a musician but is competent enough at a few instruments to write her own material. She’s been writing and singing her own songs since she was thirteen.

Marf would not describe herself as from anywhere in particular - having lived down south, up north, in the city and the country. She currently lives in Bradford. At seventeen she left home and busked her way around Ireland. Over the years she has enjoyed mucking in with different sound systems on the free party scene wherever she may be (BCPU, Ruckus, Stormbringer). Marf started toasting over Jungle and D’n’B about 2000, though she would never refer to herself as an MC.

Marf’s taste is eclectic and her involvement in a variety of projects reflects this. She sings and writes for two bands – ‘La La & the Beatspearer’ (electro big beats) and ‘Owt’ (urban folk). She is currently working as a promoter of sorts – booking bands for a couple of venues in Bradford and also working as part of ‘Bjuum’ (events & fledgling label) running regular music events in the city – trying out new things and mixing it up as much as poss!

Marf and others are currently in the process of setting up a Social Enterprise, ‘Fresh Milk’ (after the events recording sessions with Rob H) dedicated to anything to do with New Music in Bradford. Fresh Milk has recently gained support from Bradford Council to get the ball rolling.
