Laydee Bird
Drum & Bass
DJ Laydee Bird first started mixing at the tender age of 10 at her local youth club. She eventually got her first pair of decks at the age of thirteen.
Seven years down the line, Laydee Bird decided to flee out of the countryside and head towards Bristol City, which had always had a special place in her heart. Determined to play out with the boys, Laydee Bird put in some long and hard work into perfecting the art of mixing. She soon started to play at parties and festivals such as Itcycoo Park (Somerset) and various other local nights. Within two weeks of moving, Laydee Bird had already been given a residency at Pitch, which helped make her name known in the city. She went on to hosting her own show on the city's premier pirate station Passion FM and also played for Trinity Radio and the mighty internet station grandtheftaudio.co.uk Whilst attending a Full Cycle Christmas Party she met the legendery DJ Dazee. After chatting for a while they realized that they had a lot in common and decided to get into the studio together. Through Dazee she met another fellow female DJ, Diss Miss the promoter of a few nights in Bristol (Pedestrian, Girl Wonder and of course DUTTY GIRL). She invited Laydee Bird to play at Girl Wonder (a more eclectic night) where she played alongside Massive Attack's Tour DJ, Queen Bee and Diss Miss. When the Dutty Girls where asked to perform at Bristol's Ashton Court Festival, Laydee Bird and Dazee where asked to come on board to finish off the set with some Drum and Bass. They would be playing to an audience of up to 2,000 people, a change they weren’t going to turn. “ I was so nervous, but playing back to back with Dazee took the pressure off and I really felt I had the support of all the other Dutty Girls. As soon as MC Sarah B took control of the mic, I realized I really wanted to work with her from then on.” DJ LaydeeBird is now one of ‘Dutty Girl' premier D’n’B DJs and as well as one of Bristol's leading female D'n'B DJs. She can be found playing at the monthly Dutty Girls night and at various other nights in town along with MC Sarah B.
